Proteins are essential nutrients for health and body functioning. Their importance stems from the fact that they contain a number of essential amino acids that determine the proper conduct of structural functions (especially relating to the formation and preservation of muscle mass) energy functions, and also functions concerning the production of hormones and enzymes, and the strengthening the immune system. Foods that contain a greater quantity of protein is of animal origin such as meat, fish, eggs, cheese, etc. .. but there are also some types of legumes and cereals that contain a good percentage of these nutrients.
